Q: Can I use a regular Canon printer for edible ink? A: No. Once a printer has used regular ink, it is toxic and cannot be used for food. You must use a brand-new printer dedicated 100% to edible ink to ensure safety.

Q: Which lasts longer: Frosting Sheets or Wafer Paper? A: They are used for different things. Wafer paper is popular for "Burning Away" to create the cake on fire effect. It's also used for gelatin image transfers and 3D flowers & other creations. The frosting sheet (also known as sugar/icing sheet) is used to print high-quality edible images to lay on top or wrap around cakes, cupcakes and cookies. 

Q: Do I need special software to print edible images? A: No, you do not need expensive software. Our Canon and Epson edible printers work just like standard office printers. You can print directly from Microsoft Word, Photoshop, Canva, or even your phone using the free Canon Print App. To print on the pre-cut circle icing sheets however, you can try our Office Labeler trial.

Q: How long do edible ink cartridges last? A: Unopened edible ink cartridges have a shelf life of up to 24 months. Once installed, we recommend using them within 6 months for the best color quality. You can print approximately 200 sheets per set. If you don't print often, we suggest keeping a Printhead Cleaning Kit on hand to prevent clogs. 

Q: Can I refill my edible ink cartridges? A: Yes, as long as you have a refillable cartridge. We offer cost-effective Refillable Edible Ink Bottles. These can also be used to fill up EcoTank and Canon Tank models, just make sure to grab the refill toolkit (syringes and needles) to easily transfer the ink. For beginners, however, we recommend starting with our one time use XXL cartridges to ensure a hassle-free experience.

Q: How do I prevent my edible printer's ink from clogging? A: The most important maintenance tip is to keep the printer active. Since edible ink is made from food ingredients (sugar and water), it can crystallize if the printer sits idle for too long. We recommend printing a small color test page at least once a week to keep the ink flowing. If you do see streaks, simply run the printer’s built-in "Cleaning" cycle to clear the printhead. This is where the cleaning cartridges are extremely effective as well.
